A jury has retired to consider its verdict in the trial of a woman accused of murdering her lover of 16 years by poisoning his curry.

A man who attacked a rival with a billhook, inflicting the worst stab wounds a paramedic had ever seen, has won a cut in his jail term at London's Court of Appeal.

Amandeep Singh Sandhu, of Townsend Road, Southall, was jailed for a total of 13 and a half years at Harrow Crown Court on May 11 after pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent, as well as possession of cocaine with intent to supply and having a prohibited firearm.

Failed asylum seeker jailed

A failed asylum seeker who posed as another man and used a counterfeit passport to get a job has been jailed.

Sri Lankan Valentine Suresh Kumar Victor, also known as Victor Valentine, was arrested by UK Border Agency officers during an operation targeting illegal working at Heathrow Bakery in Iver, South Bucks, on 22 October.

Partnership cracks down on rubbish

Poilice teamed up with Ealing Council for a crackdown on litter and waste in Southall last week.

Officers and council staff carried out a partnership taskforce day and removed 500 discarded bread crates and 580 kg of flytip waste and rubbish.

A WOMAN last week denied allegedly trying to poison her former lover and his new fiancee.

Lakhvir Kaur Singh, 44, of Marlborough Road, Southall, also known as Lakhvir Khalon, is accused of lacing their food with a toxic substance.

A GREENGROCER who was jailed for at least 20 years for the so called "honour killing" of his sister has failed in an Appeal Court challenge to his minimum prison term.

Azhar Nazir, 33, of The Broadway, Southall and a teenage cousin were locked up by an Old Bailey judge in July 2006 for the murder of 25-year-old Samaira Nazir.

THE FAMILY of Blair Peach may finally have access to the report concerning the investigation into this death in Southall in 1979.

New Zealand-born Blair Peach, a teacher and member of the Anti-Nazi League, was battered to death following a meeting of the National Front at Southall Town Hall on April 23 1979.

AN ILLEGAL immigrant who paid £350 for a false driving licence so that he could get work as a driver in Britain was jailed for six months on Wednesday.

Davinder Kumar, 35, of Portland Road, Southall, was sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court after using a fake Spanish driving licence to get work.


Illegal workers arrested at TKC

Officers from the UK Border Agency swooped on Chaudhry's TKC in Southall Broadway last Thursday (May 16).
