100 Sikhs in Southall come out to protect community from riots

UPDATE 20:20:

southall.jpgSOUTHALL appears to be leading the way in Ealing by defending the community in a defiant stand against potential rioters this evening.

A large group of people has gathered outside the Southall Gurdwara temple, in Park Avenue, as Ealing Council and police warn residents to stay off the streets in fear of a second night of violence.

Our reporter, James Gates, on the scene at 8pm said: "About 100 people have gathered outside the Gurdwara to defend their community from the threat of rioting and looting.

"I can't see anything going on, virtually every shop is shut and it's very, very quiet - no trouble so far. There are so many Sikhs outside the temple, I'd say it's the safest place in London tonight."

And Ealing Southall MP, Virendra Sharma, was on a walkabout through Southall tonight to reassure residents and maintain the community's defiance against yesterday's dark events.

Large anti-riots groups were also reported outside the mosque in Southall Broadway.

More as we get it.

This is a wake up calling to all of us. As a British Indian Sikh, today I have had the courage to voice my opinion and do not apologized for doing so. What disturbs me most is the depletion of values in today’s society. I shall repeat this word throughout the length of this message. The rioting is key indicator for us to overcome our deficiencies, flawed soft policies, which are currently causing our society particularly youngsters to rot and cause unwanted bedlam. We need to revise our policies, eradicate these frivolous human laws and rights and provide the police more potency, harsher enforcement laws be it the special services SAS taking over such unexpected havoc and plight? What I see in our nation is fear necessity to follow the convention and status quo purely to fit in, saying the’ right thing’’ being careful’ or simply using buzz words to impress society. As an example ramping up the laws, I am certain people will think of having children twice these days some chose to induce offspring purely to exploit benefits, like we didn’t know, well sometimes its good remind ourselves as we tend to overlook the obvious. Parental upbringing is key to the type of future society we nurture.
Often old fashioned values and methods are snubbed as not being ‘cool’. Quite frankly we need to go back to the basics, the old ways. More discipline is required harsh enforcement for notorious hooligans, thugs and criminals. It is simple, before committing an act of crime, any aimless wonderer or hedonist who seeks cheap thrillers via demolition, will be aware of the consequences. Why not introduce lashes canning? Or chopping off the fingers for petty crimes similar to Middle Eastern countries like Saudi or more so perhaps lets go back to the Victorian Tudor era guillotine? Surely anyone trying to disrupt normal life would think twice? Yes government has a reason for erecting such flawed laws purely for their economic benefit based on Nash’s theory etc. However it is up to us a nation and community to have the guts to voice our opinions and try influence lobbying. Having the gift of gab, bravado, we think such traits, will favour our wit, societal acceptance, we think we are progressing, when quite to the contrary we are regressing in our self woven spaghetti.
Simplicity itself can also have its own values and advantages. This nation generates capable worthwhile minds. Looking back we see how excellence in literature, astronomy, and engineering, iconic emblems such as the Concorde, Vulcan inspired minds and drove this nation to stability. The very melancholy aspect is that a ‘foreigner youngster’ will most probably remind us more about our history than we actually know and would be able to do so as reciprocation. Are our youngsters aware of our basic and yet most important history? I bet not, though they will be able to name you the number one x factor celebrity. Ludicrous pop trash and media has taken over our core curiosity of young minds, not to mention binge drinking. To a certain extent I can understand parents are working long hours, but all couples should accept and practice responsibility before having children, and ensure they are guided and nurtured. Ask any youngster on the street what their dream is, and I will be surprised if they have an answer, in fact probably an abrasive response from the odd spoilt snob.
Today we are engulfed by politics appeasing society Let’s ask ourselves apart from mother is necessity of invention what actually led to such achievements? It was the attitude the desire and ambition to succeed come rain come shine and to stand up. I see excessive doctrine being discussed, tashes of information paper work, in some ways paradoxically a placebo, thinking we are becoming wiser by the torrent and plethora of information we generate ,when in reality such is not the case. Excessive laws policies, procedures are only to further disillusion our already deluded vision. Where is our pride as Britian? Let’s peek back at Britain’s history and learn the hardship our ancestors bore. Such needs to be fostered and drilled in to our younger generation, and do not forget simplistic values often pave way to dreams. There is no vision, no inspiration, Where are our morals? It means spending quality time with our kids and it certainly does not mean both parents have to have a cheek and tongue gob and two doctorates to produce fine seasoned offspring. We need to have simplistic values the basics. I am grateful to the Sikh community for standing up, on this occasion and commend their courage when need let alone the fact that I am Sikh and yes openly I am proud to British, proud to be Sikh. Were it not for the Sikhs, contribution in British Indian army during both World War I and II, I the outcomes could have been significantly different to today. I think Sikhs are reflecting their true DNA fortitude and commitment during the course of this undesired dissention. Let’s take from this and other examples. We need to look back, learn, instill vision, hope, dreams, and endeavor to move forward in the right direction.

There was nothing vigilant about this protest. Thes people was no better than the thugs out there rioting.

I have been told by many people that anyone who was white or of Black Carribean/African had been threatened with swords (kirpans) and abused with vile racist comments and hounded out of Southall. Some aided with a Police escort.

Watching the news i have seen people of all races rioting so does this now mean White and Black people can no longer walk the streets of Southall because they are the wrong colour?!

That is racism in itself. So I don't have praise for these people just pure disgust.
