Southall business gives charity a helping hand

A PROMINENT charity has been given a helping hand of £2,000 by a Southall business.

A-One clothing, based in Southall Broadway, presented the money to the Kali Mata Mandir group and its leader, Guruji Singh on Wednesday.

Mr Singh, who is one of Southall's best-known and longest-serving charity workers, said: "We are very grateful to A-One for this wonderful donation.

"Half the money will be spent helping the homeless and the other half will go towards helping groups like the elderly."

Mr Singh added he is rolling out new initiatives to combat homelessness and suffering in 2010.

He said: "Our mission statement for this year is: 'Permanently abolish poverty. Deadline: yesterday.'

"We want to set up a rapid response unit where people can call my number and we can get to them quickly with whatever they need.

"We also want to do more with young people in the area, particularly Southall, and help keep them off the streets."

Mr Singh added he is still deperately in need of donations such as clean clothing, bedsheets and other items that might help those in need.

And he is also appealing for anyone who can help him as the engine in his van, which is vital for his charity work, is currently broken.

And he is continuing his efforts in helping to send homeless people back to India, taking care of all the costs involved.

Anyone who would like to contact Mr Singh can call him on 07990 770619. To find out more about Kali Mata Mandir, visit the charity's website at www.kalimata.co.uk.
