A failed asylum seeker who posed as another man and used a counterfeit passport to get a job has been jailed.

Sri Lankan Valentine Suresh Kumar Victor, also known as Victor Valentine, was arrested by UK Border Agency officers during an operation targeting illegal working at Heathrow Bakery in Iver, South Bucks, on 22 October.

The 36-year-old, of Abbotts Road in Southall, was found to be using a counterfeit Indian passport in someone else's name containing a fake work permit.

He was later charged with two offences under the ID Cards Act, and one count of fraud. During a hearing at Aylesbury Crown Court on Thursday 5 November he pleaded guilty to all charges, and was sentenced to 14 months in prison.

The judge also recommended that Valentine be deported at the end of his sentence.

Speaking after the hearing, Inspector Fari Smith from the UK Border Agency's Joint Immigration Crime Team said: "This conviction shows how seriously the UK Border Agency takes criminals who use false or fake identity documents.

"We now have teams of specialist officers working to investigate exactly this kind of crime. This is another example of their success.

"We and our law enforcement partners will continue to work to identify criminal activity like this and remove those who have no right to be in this country."

Valentine was one of nine people arrested during the operation at Heathrow Bakery.

Two others were removed from the country, one has an immigration claim outstanding, and the other five remain on bail while the UK Border Agency works to secure travel documents for their removal.
