Trial set for alleged poisoner
A WOMAN last week denied allegedly trying to poison her former lover and his new fiancee.
Lakhvir Kaur Singh, 44, of Marlborough Road, Southall, also known as Lakhvir Khalon, is accused of lacing their food with a toxic substance.
Lakhvinder Cheema, 39, of Princes Road in Feltham, west London, died in the West London University Hospital on January 28 this year.
His fiancee, 21-year-old Gurjeet Kaur Choongh survived after being admitted to hospital in a critical state.
It is believed the pair fell ill after sharing a meal together at Mr Cheema's home.
Last Friday at The Old Bailey, Singh denied murder and attempted murder. She also denied a further charge of trying to kill Mr Cheema on December 6 last year.
Judge Paul Worsley QC set a trial for January 1 next year. The case is expected to last three weeks.
Singh was released on conditional bail.
