MP Sharma fundraiser a success
EALING Southall MP Virendra Sharma hosted a successful fundraising dinner for the Labour Party last Friday (July 10).
The event in South Ruislip attracted over 600 guests, who enjoyed dinner and listened to guest speakers including the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Alan Johnson MP, Claude Moraes MEP and London Labour Party Director, Ken Clark.
Among the guests attending were key leaders from all sections of Southall's community.
The fundraiser, which was a sell out, raised significant amounts to pay for the local Ealing Southall Labour Party campaign to get Mr Sharma re-elected as the Member of Parliament for Ealing Southall at the next general election.
Speaking after the dinner Mr Sharma said, "I was humbled and honoured by the level of support shown to me and the local Labour Party at this very successful and enjoyable fundraising dinner.
"The Home Secretary Alan Johnson MP gave an excellent speech contrasting the state of the country when the Tories were last in power with the progress made under Labour.
"The local Labour Party and community was inspired by the Home Secretary's call to go out and campaign for a Labour victory at the next election."

I think V.Sharma needs all the money he can muster! It's very clear that Labour are on a downwards slide. Even in places like Southall, where I grew up, which has typically been a "safe" Labour stronghold. I truly hope that there is a big shake up at the next general election. Personally, I don't want to see this man being re-elected. It would be great to see another party have a go. I like what the Conservatives are doing right now. I hope they or the Lib Dems take it.
I agree. Sharma doesn't seem to have anything to say about the inadequate public transport in our area or the poor heath care facilities. It's definitely time for a change!
This is not about Mr. Sharma trying to collect dollars. All politicians from all political parties collect money. While I respect your views for a shake-up, I disagree. Ealing and Southall are at the forefront of recovering from a worldwide recession and and is now in a position to propel ahead. A shakeup would be a disaster and I fear that it would set us back.
Come-on friends, let's make sure we keep Southall on track!
"humbled" and Sharma is a contradiction of terms.
The dinner guests were there not to support Sharma, they had their own reasons and personal agendas for attending, and Sharma knows it.
As usual, he treats the mass electorate of Southall like fools!
