Trial set for alleged poisoner

A WOMAN last week denied allegedly trying to poison her former lover and his new fiancee.

Lakhvir Kaur Singh, 44, of Marlborough Road, Southall, also known as Lakhvir Khalon, is accused of lacing their food with a toxic substance.

Volunteers are needed to pick up and drop off elderly people for a function on Sunday.

EALING Southall MP Virendra Sharma hosted a successful fundraising dinner for the Labour Party last Friday (July 10).

The event in South Ruislip attracted over 600 guests, who enjoyed dinner and listened to guest speakers including the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Alan Johnson MP, Claude Moraes MEP and London Labour Party Director, Ken Clark.

A GREENGROCER who was jailed for at least 20 years for the so called "honour killing" of his sister has failed in an Appeal Court challenge to his minimum prison term.

Azhar Nazir, 33, of The Broadway, Southall and a teenage cousin were locked up by an Old Bailey judge in July 2006 for the murder of 25-year-old Samaira Nazir.

THE FAMILY of Blair Peach may finally have access to the report concerning the investigation into this death in Southall in 1979.

The New Zealand-born schoolteacher and Anti-Nazi League member died following clashes with police during the Southall Race Riots. No-one was ever held accountable for his death.
