Squalid sandwich maker shut down
A SQUALID sandwich manufacturer was closed down after Ealing Council health inspectors discovered filthy working conditions and out-of-date food.
Dreams Foods in Witley Gardens, Southall, was forced to close after council officers served a notice on the company.
Regulatory Services officers obtained a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Order at Ealing Magistrates' Court last Thursday (June 25) to ensure it remains closed until it meets cleanliness and hygiene standards.
The company produces thousands of sandwiches and rolls every day, which are delivered across London and the south-east.
Revolting conditions revealed during inspection included out-of-date food in chillers, dirty staff toilets, filthy floors, dirty sinks and taps, grimy packaging machines and rusty blades on the meat and cheese slicer.
Councillor Vlod Barchuk, cabinet member for safer communities at Ealing said: "It's outrageous that this company thought it was acceptable to produce food in such filthy surroundings.
"It posed a serious risk to people's health and if this company wants to do business in the area again it will have to clean up its act."
