Hanwell property to get facelift
A RUN-down commercial building in the heart of Hanwell could get a new lease fn life thanks to a new proposal from Ealing Council.
The disused building, at 120 Uxbridge Road, occupies a prominent position in Hanwell's conservation district but has been vacant for around two years.
The council is proposing to take out a lease on the property and upgrade its exterior through Ealing's shop front improvement scheme.
It would then look to sub-let the property to retailers, social enterprises or other businesses, bringing new activity and vitality into Hanwell town centre.
Ealing Council's cabinet member for regeneration, councillor David Millican, said: "This is such a prominent building and if it were brought back into use it could really lift the town centre.
"It would also add a new dimension to the £1million regeneration project already underway in Hanwell town centre and, if successful, set an example for other local regeneration projects to follow."
The Hanwell regeneration programme has seen a range of improvements already undertaken across the town centre including the Hanwell clock tower restoration, new hanging baskets, heritage-style lamp columns, festive lights and landscaping at St Mellitus church.
The council's proposal to take out a lease on the Uxbridge Road property is subject to the current leaseholder undertaking internal repairs and refurbishment. Negotiations with the current leaseholder are expected to begin next month.
