A SQUALID sandwich manufacturer was closed down after Ealing Council health inspectors discovered filthy working conditions and out-of-date food.

Dreams Foods in Witley Gardens, Southall, was forced to close after council officers served a notice on the company.

Hanwell property to get facelift

A RUN-down commercial building in the heart of Hanwell could get a new lease fn life thanks to a new proposal from Ealing Council.

The disused building, at 120 Uxbridge Road, occupies a prominent position in Hanwell's conservation district but has been vacant for around two years.

National charity Bowel Cancer UK is launching a bowel cancer awareness DVD and volunteer recruitment drive in Southall next week.

The launch event will take place on Tuesday (June 30) at the Dominion Arts Education Centre, The Green, Southall between 11am and 1pm.

Southall company fined

LIVES were put at risk by a Southall company which has been ordered to pay over £25,000 in fines for breaching fire safety regulations.

Property management firm Shoalacre Ltd of The Broadway, Southall, admitted guilt on seven contraventions of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

CAMPAIGNERS are demanding the Metropolitan Police release secret documents following the death of a protestor during the Southall Race Riots 30 years ago.

New Zealand-born Blair Peach, a teacher and member of the Anti-Nazi League, was battered to death following a meeting of the National Front at Southall Town Hall on April 23 1979.

New fitness centre for Southall

A NEW keep fit centre is re-launching next month at Featherstone Sports Centre in Montague Way, Southall.

Eagle Life Community Wellness is launching on July 7 and will offer a variety of aerobics programmes for anyone aged over 14 years old.

MORE than £300 has been raised by children who took part in a fun run at Windmill Park Children's Centre in Southall.

About 20 children aged up to 4-years-old took part in the run by doing five laps around the centre in Southall Park onFriday June 5 and all money raised will go towards facilities for the summer.

Thames21, London's leading waterways charity, will be running a free event at the Grand Union Canal by the Common, Southall tomorrow and Sunday from 10.30am - 4pm.

There will be activities suitable for all to get involved with including boat trips, fishing lessons, face painting, balloon modelling, and also the chance to get involved with litter and graffiti removal from the waterside areas.
