Southall illegal immigrant jailed
AN ILLEGAL immigrant who paid £350 for a false driving licence so that he could get work as a driver in Britain was jailed for six months on Wednesday.
Davinder Kumar, 35, of Portland Road, Southall, was sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court after using a fake Spanish driving licence to get work.
The court had been told that Kumar came to the UK in a lorry eight years ago. He had worked in the construction industry but had then decided that he would rather work driving than in the construction industry.
As a result he had obtained the driving licence and a false Home Office immigration card, for which he also paid £350. However, his use of the fake documents came to light after he was stopped by police in Southall on the evening of February 4.
Kumar pleaded guilty to having fake documents with intent to deceive and admitted he bought them in order to get work as a driver.
Jailing him, the Recorder Anthony Brigden said: "It is so serious only a custodial sentence is justified."
