Illegal workers arrested at TKC
One of Southall's most popular and long-running restaurants is facing a fine of up to £40,000 after four people were arrested for working illegally.
Officers from the UK Border Agency swooped on Chaudhry's TKC in Southall Broadway last Thursday (May 16).
Three people were arrested for immigration offences - one Pakistani and one Afghan male for entering the country without leave, and a further Pakistani male for overstaying on a visa.
One remains in detention awaiting removal from the UK, while two were granted bail while the UK Border Agency works to obtain travel documents for them.
A fourth person, a Pakistani female, was subsequently arrested at a residential address. She also remains in detention awaiting removal.
Chaudhry's TKC, established in 1965, is one of the most successful businesses in Southall.
Over the years it has developed strong links with Pakistan and hosted the country's cricket team, as well as celebrities such as Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and boxing champion Amir Khan.
Manager Dalawar Chaudhry said: "We expect the credentials of all our employees to be correct and we inspect those credentials thoroughly based on what they have provided us with. That's what we did in this case."
"Having said that, we have not received any training in scrutinising paperwork to see if it is not original or authentic.
"My speciality is running a restaurant. I am not a UK Border Agency officer. If they want to arrest illegal workers they should go to the junction of Norwood Road in Southall, where they congregate.
"They are targetting businesses like ours because they know they can get money from it. I found the officers to be rude and degenerate and I would like to know why they are always targetting the Asian community in these raids."
The restaurant now has 28 days to prove to the UK Border Agency that the correct right-to-work checks were carried out, or it could face a fine of £10,000 for each person arrested.
The bust is the third of its kind in Southall over the last two months. Officers carried out separate raids at sites in Balfour Road and Bridge Road Industrial Estate. Eleven people were arrested in total.

i suppose mr chaudhary has a point. maybe the immigration officers should sweep on the junction of norwood rd and king street opposite the old swan pub where about twenty or so illegal asians congregate every day looking to be picked up for labour work. if they do not then it proves mr chaudhary's point that businesses are deliberately targeted because of the huge revenue that can be generated by issuing crazy fines!!!
"They are targeting businesses like ours because they know they can get money from it.
It may well be that they are targeting these businesses because of the likelihood of finding illegal workers, which in this case seems to support the assumption.
Citizen_smith has a point though, businesses are punished with hefty fines but ironically they seem to give some rights to these illegal immigrants. the govt obviously targets businesses more because of the money. i live in southall and every single day i see loads and loads of immigrants waiting in the car park opposite white swan pub on norwood rd to be picked up by unscrupolous employers who abuse them and make them work for ten pounds a day doing very hard and dangerous labour work in filthy conditions. Why don't the immigration officers pick these people up and end their misery????? MONEY SEEMS TO BE THE REASON. IT WOULD COST THE GOVT MONEY TO PICK THEM UP AND HOLD THEM AS OPPOSED TO SWOOPING ON BUSINESSES WHERE THERE'S A QUICK BUCK TO BE MADE!
however you look at it, it's illegal immigration wherever they swoop.
im sure they did a swoop ages back on king street.
much more needs to be done.
what a rubbish government we have!.
It's not surprising that business are now crying foul. Instead of amending their ways, they should STOP EMPLOYING ILLEGAL WORKERS! IT IS AGAINST THE LAW TO EMPLOY ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS!! SIMPLE!!Southall businesses need to behave professionally. It's about time the authorities came down hard on these people who hire cheap labour for exploitation.
Yes i agree with Raj Singh and lets also target the illegal immigrants who congregate on the streets of Southall every morning mainly the junction of Norwood Rd and King St and also the Gurdwara on Western Rd. There are simply too many immigrants gathering here and it doesn't take rocket science to figure out who they are. Yes businesses who employ these people are part of the problem but i have also heard that the Havelock Rd gurdwara was built mainly with the labour work of these poor immigrants.
We need action and we need action now!!
Haha i had two turban wearing men knock on my door asking for money for an indian temple and orphanage. they showed me some medievel looking id card which i believed were created in the punjab. when i asked them whether they were british citizens they were confused. i pulled out my BA airside pass and asked them for their british passport and to my surprise these guys dropped everything and ran faster than speedy gonzales towards southall park. these guys are now scamming people because they got no other way to survive. the goverment needs to pull its socks up and send these people back to punjab on a one way flight!!!!
Haha! you alot are funny!! :D:D I agree with Jason!! that is true, same thing happened to me! There are alot Illegal immigrants workers near Norwood Rd and King St car park the police should arrest those Illegal immigrants people!
