Health secretary visits Southall

HEALTH Secretary Alan Johnson MP, Labour's Health Secretary, visited a surgery in Southall earlier this week.

Mr Johnson, joined Southall MP Virendra Sharma and Ealing Labour group leader Julian Bell, visited the Somerset Family Practice in Somerset Road, Southall on Wednesday.

Southall illegal immigrant jailed

AN ILLEGAL immigrant who paid £350 for a false driving licence so that he could get work as a driver in Britain was jailed for six months on Wednesday.

Davinder Kumar, 35, of Portland Road, Southall, was sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court after using a fake Spanish driving licence to get work.


Illegal workers arrested at TKC

One of Southall's most popular and long-running restaurants is facing a fine of up to £40,000 after four people were arrested for working illegally.

Officers from the UK Border Agency swooped on Chaudhry's TKC in Southall Broadway last Thursday (May 16).

Hanwell carnival on the way

HANWELL Carnival will take place this year on Saturday June 20 from 12pm to 6pm at Elthrone Park.

The theme for this year's free event is "green", with a number of zones including arts and crafts, olde Hanwell, dog shows, charity stalls and food vendors including a spit roast.

Police consultation for Southall

Southall Police will be running a consultation evening on Wednesday May 27 at 7pm at The Dominion Arts Centre in The Green.

The evening will provide people with the opportunity to talk to officers and have their say on combating crime in the area.

Muder suspect cleared

THE first trial using a 'black on black' supergrass ended in failure yesterday after a wannabe gangsta rapper was cleared of shooting two men dead at a Dizzee Rascal concert in Southall seven years ago.

Shakah Anderson, 28, had been accused of the murders of Mohamed Korneh and Selorn Gbesemete, both 21, at an anti-gun party in west London in 2002.

THE campaign office of the Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Ealing Southall, councillor Gurcharan Singh was opened last Friday (01).

Jason Stacey, leader of Ealing Council, was on hand to open the office on Southall Broadway, which will serve as a base for Cllr Singh's campaign and allow members of the public to come in and discuss issues.

TBG Learning Centre in Southall is opening its doors to the public as part of the nationwide Adult Learners' Week, running this year between May 9 and 15.

Everyone is welcome to come and bring a friend to see what courses are on offer at the centre in Windmill Lane.

A PETITION with nearly 1,000 signatures was handed to Ealing Council today in protest at a proposed power station for Southall

Blue NG has applied to the council for permission to build a multi-million pound facility, which would process bio-fuels for electricity, at the former site of Southall Gasworks in The Straight.
