Southall police warn employers hiring illegal immigrants
Signs have been put up in Southall warning van drivers and builders about penalties for employing illegal workers.
The initiative by Southall Police is part of a crackdown on hot spots for illegal immigrants, carried out with the help of the borough council and the UK Border Agency
Kings Street car park and Norwood Road in Southall have been identified as hot spots and will be hit by a number of joint operations, scheduled to run over the next few months.
Pensioner Bill Denbrough, who lives near Norwood Road, said: "This part of Southall has got a massive problem with illegal workers.
"The worst thing is that these are people looking for a better way of life but they end up having the most horrendous experience. I can only hope this crackdown does some good."
Sergeant Richard Moelwyn-Hughes of Ealing Police said: "This has been a problem in the area for some time and while some tactics work and others fail, we are committed to making the area safer for everyone.
"With all the different partners working together we hope to make a difference. Some of these illegal immigrants have spent lots of money getting over here only to work in a menial job earning a pittance and be abused by unscrupulous employees.
"We are targeting those employees with the threat of prosecution."

*A man arrested in a raid in Southall last week will appear in crown court charged with two counts of fraud."
Sukhjiwan Singh Burham, 36, who lives in Slough, was charged with two counts of possession of improperly-obtained identification documents.
He was arrested along with eight other Indian nationals after the UK Border Agency swooped on KMB Caterers in Balfour Road, Southall last Thursday (02).
He is due to appear at Reading Crown Court on April 15th. A spokesman for the UK Border Agency said more charges are expected to follow.

I read with hilarity this thing about signs been put up warning builders etc not to use the illegal immigrants who converge on the junction of king st and norwood rd!!
My question is WHY has this taken so long to happen????
I left southall in 2007 after 36 years brought up there and the problems in that area were well evident a few years before i left!
Why police have taken so long to act? putting up warning signs are doing no good to anybody as builder do have mobile numbers of illegal immigrants to avoid them picking them up from junction of king street and norwood road. What police need is to raid houses where ever builders are working. strict rules are also needed for both electrical engineers and Gas testing engineers not to issue certificates to any work which is carried out by illegal immigrants. Illegal immigrants settled down in this country through marrages are more responsible for carring out crimes and helping more people back home to enter this country through the back door. Above all the goverment is responsible for all this mess we are in.
