Parking misery in Southall could be eased under a new scheme being piloted by Ealing Council.

Fifty car parking spaces will be available at Southall Conservative Club shortly, for £1 an hour or £5 a day.

The scheme, which is being rolled out in partnership with the club in High Street, will be advertised in the coming weeks.

Poor parking facilities are a major issue in Southall, with local businesses regularly complaining that it contributes to a lack of footfall in the area.

Peter Clifford, club secretary, said: "30 spaces will be reserved for club members and 50 spaces will be made available to the public, which means 80 spaces in total.

"Ealing Council is doing this to alleviate the problem with parking in the area. It means they can utilise space that's not being used."

"We're going to try it. If it works it works, if it doesn't, it doesn't. One thing we will have to do is install a pay and display machine."

A spokesperson for Ealing Council said: "We are piloting a scheme to open up private car parks in Southall to other drivers because we are keen to encourage more shoppers into our town centres.

"We are still in the process of exploring a number of locations where it might be possible to implement the scheme. "

We'd like to hear from you.

It amazes me to hear that businesses in Southall whinge about the poor parking facilities.

There is a large multi storey car park which is only full at weekends. During weekdays its almost empty.

Residents have had to put up with large volumes of traffic and traffic congestion for decades now!

Rsidents do not want motorists being encouraged to come into Southall. Parking is a problem in Ealing Broadway but everyone parks in the car parks etc or shoppers use public transport.

The same should be for Southall - no exceptions.

Shoppers who like to shop in Southall will always come no matter what the difficulties, so business should stop thinking about their profits for a change. Businesses are so GREEDY!!!! You should see the rubbish they cause at the back of their shops!!
