New inspector for Southall

The new police inspector for Southall said he wants to enlist the community and young people in fighting crime in the area.

Insp Rob Bryan, who has been on the force since 1989, asked to be posted in the area as he had patrolled the streets of Ealing as a PC in the mid 1990s.

He said: "It's one of the best boroughs to work in in terms of the amount of diversity in the area. Also, the people here are very friendly.

"We will be working towards a safer Southall and one of the main things I will be looking at is problems with prostitution in the area.

"I want to solve it in the long-term, though a mixture of educating the men who use prostitutes and drug referrals for the women involved in it."

Insp Bryan, who is married with three children, said he will also be looking at engaging with the youth, particularly in the Somalian community.

"We've got problems with gang crime and youth crime outside schools, so we're looking to to put in a bigger police presence in those areas.

"I believe that the Inspector should have a lot to do with the community. I've planning on setting up a monthly surgery at Southall Community Association in High Street.

"This will be for anyone who wants to raise issues with me or bring something to my attention."

Insp Bryan said he has a minimum tenure of two years in Southall, after the area had two inspectors and two acting inspectors in the past 15 months.

Anyone who wants to contact Insp Bryan can contact him on 0208 721 2907 or 07879 260 706. Alternatively, they can email rob.bryan@met.police.uk.

I hope we see a no nonsense approach and a tough stance on low level anti social behaviour. Also we need to fight for our fair share of bobbies a campaign which Jason Stacey has already formulated and been to see The Mayor about.
