Poor Turnout For Ward Forum

Posted by James Gates on Oct 17, 08 11:35 AM in

A poor turnout marked the inaugural ward forum for Southall Green at The Dominion Centre last night.

There were only about 10 people at the meeting - not including councillors or community officers - which is being used to decide how to spend £40,000 on facilities to improve residents' lives.

Issues of concern raised at the meeting included drug dealing on The Green, prostitution, lack of parking and traffic management around Regina Road.

One of the most contentious issues of the evening was houses with multiple occupants, where dwellings across Southall are reportedly modified to house illegal immigrants.

The forum included an update from PC Gwen Hunt of the local safer neighbourhood team, who said the local policing unit was prioritising crackdowns on anti-social behaviour, drugs and street workers.

Suggestions for the £40,000 included stand-up urinals for parks in the area and replacing benches around The Green.

We'd like to hear from you.

Poor turnout was probably due to lack of expectations from such meetings.

Do you mean people find it hard to make ends meet and as such many houses have been turned into upstairs and downstairs flats

or

Do they have secret trap doors to the cellars to house illegal immigrants?

"stand-up urinals for parks in the area" is an extremely good idea. At least they will be looked after.

Far better than letting them use the underground passage near the railway station.

That stench is more than enough to stop people using the underground passage.
